Diving into your supply box!
For supplies, we organize into two categories: Reusable and Consumable.
Reusable supplies are made to be used again and again. With normal use, they should last through the entire school year, and likely well beyond. In our experience, these materials quickly become favorites for all kinds of creative projects, not just GenSTEM lessons.
Consumable supplies are meant to be used up over time. We've included a starter set of our favorite materials to get you going. As you run low, simply replenish them with your preferred brands or materials.
For storage, you can keep everything in the original GenSTEM box and bags or organize the supplies into your existing homeschool space, whatever works best for your family.

K-2 Curriculum Set
If working with the K-2 curriculum set, the cardboard cutter and hot glue gun will not be introduced until later challenges. For the first four projects, we recommend just setting out the needed supplies. Once all tools have been introduced, we like for kids to have access to everything, either organized in the box or mixed into your existing homeschool area.
2-3 Curriculum Set
Kids will start with all of the tools from the first project. You know your kid best and can throttle how much independence they are ready for. A stoplight method works great for letting kids know what they can access on their own.
RED = Use with a parent only
YELLOW = Ask permission first
GREEN = Free to use

Cardboard Cutter
This tool tends to be a crowd favorite.
For the K-2 curriculum set, this tool will be introduced at Challenge #5.
For 2-3 curriculum set, kids can start using this tool from the start. You know your own kids best. Parent discretion on how much freedom is given.

Hot Glue Gun & Tray
The plastic tray provides a safe resting place for your hot glue gun while it’s in use. It can also be useful for holding beads, pom-poms, or other small items to keep them from rolling off the table.
For the K-2 curriculum set, this tool will be introduced at Challenge #7.
For 2-3 curriculum set, kids can start using this tool from the start. You know your own kids best. Parent discretion on how much freedom is given. Gloves should be worn on both hands and at all times.
